Hurricane Laura Barrels Through the Gulf of Mexico
August 26, 2020

Hurricane Laura has quickly intensified into a large and deadly Category 4 and is currently targeting landfall around the Texas and Louisiana border Wednesday evening with sustained winds in excess of 140 mph.

Aside from the human population in the path, and we pray for their safety, the hurricane is also targeting the heart of the USA petrochemical producing region.

In preparation for the potentially destructive storm, many oil and gas platforms have shut, as well as refineries and petrochemical complexes including steam crackers and plastics plants, which will all result in lost production.

This will no doubt impact supply and pricing for an already very tightly supplied resin market, the extent will not be known until the storm passes through and damage assessments are made.

Safety above all.
